in preparation for nz fashion week...
James Dobson of Jimmy D - It's a manic time of year! I still do quite a few hours at our store Children of Vision, so I work on the new collection largely before the store opens and after it closes with one or two full days in the studio a week. Needless to say there are some late nights...the new collection is all mapped out on the studio wall, so it¹s a case of a lot of pattern making, toile-ing and tweaking, and then cutting the(hopefully) final sample. Obviously this goes for each garment, and with 25 30 outfits there¹s a lot of clothes to make...In the meantime there¹s meetings with Claire and Greg from Meadowlark who I¹m collaborating with on jewellery with this season, lots of exciting conversations around styling with Chris Lorimer we are pretty much constantly bouncing ideas off each other, emailing inspiration backwards and forwards with Luana Coscia from Fudge who is our hair director as well as meetings with the lovely ladies at MAC regarding the make-up look for our show. All alongside this there are production meetings, model castings, finalising prints, signing of invite design, shoes, fittings, seating plans, etc. In fact I¹m stressing myself out as I write this... BUT, there¹s one thing for sure it always comes together in the end as unlikely as that seems right now...

Marc Moore of Stolen Girlfriend's Club - This year we want to be a a little more prepared! Our two most important things at this stage are securing a venue and making sure the collection is finished in advance. The last few Fashion Week shows (including Sydney) have been so, so last minute, we didn't secure a venue until three days out from the show! This just puts too much pressure on our little team. So if you hear of a venue that holds about 1000 people, please let us know!

Emilie and Abby of Maaike - We are hard at work getting our first ever collection together, and we are so excited to be launching it at NZ Fashion Week! The theme is inspired by the mummies of Ancient Egypt – the collection features lots of layers and wrapping as you might imagine with such a theme and look out for our beautiful NZ made knitwear including a favourite graphic sweater dress with bold stripe detailing.

Anjali Stewart of twenty-seven names We don’t want to give too much away, but let's just say for the coming winter season we're looking back to the glory days of our youth for inspiration, so expect textured fabrics and printed silks. All will be revealed at Fashion Week!

Kirsha Whitcher of Salasai - We are preparing for NZ Fashion Week at the moment, things are coming along nicely - but in the workroom it is crazy...we are working with our major sponsor "Hilton Hotel" for our show this year showing in the amazing exhibition centre, a concrete industrial space full of pillars overlooking the Waitemata Harbour. It's exciting and busy yet we seem very prepared for it this season although we are running behind schedule and are still pattern cutting!!! We are going to try and enjoy the build up as much as possible although half our team are in Auckland, Harriet and I take care of sampling down here in the Bay. We’ve changed the direction of the range slightly from last Winter, as we have recently introduced the unisex aspect of the range which has been well received thus far, so this Fashion Week we will have boys on the catwalk for the first time - which is going to be a blast....

Chelsea Thorpe of neverblack - As NZFW 2010 is Neverblack’s first runway show ever, we are really excited to show the collection. As always the concept is very important, a strong concept allows us to have fun with the show and play to the strengths of the collection. Currently we are working through ideas for styling - as always working with a great team. I’m also looking hard to source the perfect pair of boots for my girls to wear on the catwalk. Winter ‘11 will be far more vampish and sexy than previous collection but still keep the beautiful and feminine aspects of Summer ‘10 - hopefully this contrast will work perfectly!”
